  • The Sacrosanct Oracle//Composition Deck is a collection of resource-based oracle messages that double as indeterminate graphic scores. Composed to uphold folx of marginalized gender identities, the cards offer space to assess, access, cultivate, claim, and share resources to dismantle the binary, gender-based cultural conditioning of patriarchal power structures as we forge our own paths forward.

    Created by toychestral electroacoustic composer-performer Alexa Dexa, Sacrosanct holds 50 hand-drawn and digitally colored oracle//composition cards measuring 3.5” x 5.75” and an altar card featuring a spell for synchronicity. An accompanying 108-page, hand-written and risograph-printed guidebook presents methods for resourcing yourself and musically reading the cards to invoke songspells (intentions that hold space for infinite possibility translated letter for letter into musical phrases that manifest transformation through the process of deep listening).

    Accessing music as transformative self-care through the Sacrosanct Oracle//Composition Deck requires only a mechanism for generating sound and connection to experimentation and play. Formal musical training is not necessary.

Bewitch Yourself is a ritual for resourcing ourselves and sharing our resources. It is shaped by songspells, which Alexa Dexa defines as intentions holding space for dream possibilities that manifest transformation through the process of deep listening. A songspell is a seed of self-care. Its magic blooms from the truth that what we give our attention to grows.

Our ritual begins as we call ourselves in. We offer ourselves an energetic opening in supported surroundings. We listen. We practice being in our bodies. We hold space to hold ourselves. We seal our ritual as we extend gratitude. We welcome an energetic release to make way for transformation.

Each songspell for Bewitch Yourself was crafted with readings Alexa Dexa divined using their self-published Sacrosanct Oracle//Composition Deck. Their deck is a collection of resource-based oracle messages that double as indeterminate graphic scores. Its main theme reminds us we are sacrosanct just the way we are. Each songspell was cast by Alexa Dexa with voice, an ever-expanding collection of toy instruments to rival a playpen, and live electronic processing in MaxMSP.

As you listen, find yourself in full-body comfort as it appears for you in this moment or as you dream for it to find you. Consider the resources you’d like to call in to yourself.
